Creative Ideas for the School Holidays

Spring is here, and the school holidays are the perfect time to get creative at home! While Yakult can support digestive balance and intestinal health, our Yakult bottles can also be repurposed into fun crafts that entertain kids and spark their imagination.   

Here are some simple, eco-friendly ideas to try with your empty Yakult bottles!

 

Yakult Bug Friends 

Turn your empty Yakult bottles into fun bugs and friendly critters! With paint, googly eyes, felt, and pipe cleaners, kids can design their own bottle friends—perfect for storytelling and imaginative play. 

 

BEE 🐝

Materials: 

  • Yakult bottles 
  • Yellow paint or markers 
  • Googly eyes 
  • Pipe cleaners (plus any extra craft materials you’d like) 
  • Glue or tape for assembling 
  • Scissors 

 

Steps: 

  1. Drink & Rinse– Enjoy your Yakult, then wash and dry the empty bottle. 
  2. Add Colour – Decorate your bottle with paint or markers to give it colour and personality.  
  3. Create Wings – Decorate the printable wings, cut them out, and stick them to the back of your bottle. 
  4. Get Crafty – Glue on googly eyes, and use pipe cleaners to make antennae, legs, or extra decorations. 
  5. Play & Display – Use your bottle friends for imaginative play, storytelling, or display them as a mini spring bug collection.  

 

LADYBUG 🐞 

Materials: 

  • Yakult bottles 
  • Paint or markers 
  • Googly eyes 
  • Pom-poms and pipe cleaners (plus any extra craft supplies you’d like) 
  • Glue or tape  
  • Scissors 

 

Steps: 

  1. Drink & Rinse – Enjoy your Yakult, then wash and dry the empty bottle. 
  2. Add Colour – Decorate your bottle with paint or markers to give it colour and personality.  
  3. Create Wings – Decorate the printable wings, cut them out, and fold along the dotted lines. 
  4. Get Crafty – Add googly eyes, pom-poms, and pipe cleaners to create antennae, legs and spots on the wings. 
  5. Attach – Stick your wings to the front of your ladybug with glue or tape. 
  6. Play & Display – Use your ladybug for imaginative play, storytelling, or decorations in your garden! 

 

 

Yakult Herb Bottle Garden

Transform your empty Yakult bottles into adorable mini planters! Kids will love decorating their bottles, planting tiny seeds, and watching their mini gardens grow. It’s a fun, creative way to learn about plants and gardening. 

Materials:  

  • Yakult bottles 
  • Soil 
  • Seeds, sprouts, or small flowers/herbs 
  • Paint, markers, or other craft supplies for decorating 
  • Water 

 

Steps: 

  1. Drink and Rinse – Enjoy your Yakult, then rinse out the empty bottle. 
  2. Decorate – Decorate your bottle however you like! Get creative – paint, draw, add ribbons, googly eyes, or stickers! 
  3. Fill – Fill your bottle with soil. 
  4. Plant – Plant seeds or small sprouts in the soil. 
  5. Water – Lightly spray the soil with water. 
  6. Grow – Place in a sunny spot and watch your plant grow! Remember to water it regularly! 

 

💡Tip: You can use flowers instead of herbs to brighten up your garden!  

 

 

Yakult Wind Chime 

Turn your empty Yakult bottles into a bright and musical wind chime! Paint them in fun colours, add beads and string, and create a cheerful, spring-inspired decoration. 

Materials: 

  • Yakult bottles 
  • Beads 
  • String or twine 
  • A stick or piece of timber (approx. 30cm long) 
  • Paint or markers (plus any extra craft supplies you’d like for decorating) 
  • An element for music (eg. a bell, rice, or metal such as cutlery) 
  • A pin or craft knife (to make a small hole in the base of each bottle) 

 

Steps: 

  1. Drink & Rinse – Enjoy your Yakult, then wash and dry the bottle. 
  2. Decorate – Use paint, markers, or craft supplies to decorate your bottles in bright colours. 
  3. Prepare your Bottles – Carefully poke a hole in the base of each bottle.
    Tip: Ask an adult to help with this step. 
  4. Thread & Bead – Cut a piece of string, add beads, and tie a knot to hold them in place. Thread the string through the bottle, then add more beads below it. 
  5. Assemble – Tie each decorated bottle string onto the stick so they hang freely. 
  6. Hang & Enjoy – Place your wind chime somewhere breezy and enjoy the cheerful jingling sounds. 

 

💡 Tip: Mix up the string lengths, bottle positions, and bead sizes for extra variety in colour and sound! Our team used glass beads for extra sound, and they shine in the sun!
