Yakult Enters the New Zealand Market

On June 14, 2004 Yakult Australia Pty Ltd introduced Yakult fermented milk drink to New Zealand. Yakult contains the live beneficial bacteria Lactobacillus casei Shirota strain which helps to maintain the balance between ‘good’ and ‘potentially harmful’ bacteria in the small intestines.

Even with a balanced and nutritious diet, things like stress, natural ageing and overindulgence can cause an imbalance of bacteria in the digestive system. Yakult is a ‘probiotic’ drink that replenishes the supply of good bacteria to the digestive system, keeping it balanced and working efficiently.

A dietitian for Yakult Australia says, “When people think of the term bacteria this often has a negative connotation. However, the bacteria in Yakult is what we refer to as a beneficial bacteria. We have between 300-500 different types of bacteria in our digestive system and it is vital to maintain a balance. We recommend that drinking one bottle of Yakult per day will contribute to achieving optimum intestinal health”.

Founded in Japan in 1935 and entering the Australian market in 1994, Yakult in the daily diet provides enough beneficial bacteria to help keep the digestive system functioning effectively. With 25 million people worldwide drinking Yakult everyday, Yakult can now be enjoyed by all New Zealanders.

Our sales & warehouse operation is based in Penrose and local sales and administrative staff will be involved in the importing, storage and sales of Yakult throughout Auckland, Waikato and the Bay of Plenty. With indications of strong demand from New Zealand, Yakult will be available for consumers to purchase in major supermarket chains, independent supermarkets, Asian grocers and health stores in the area. Demonstrations and tasting programs have commenced in local shopping centres.
