From unknown to household name ... Yakult Australia's Ten Year Success Story While probiotics have a long history in eastern culture, the concept was a completely new one for the Australian market.

The first probiotic product ever to enter the Australian market, Yakult sales, customer loyalty and recognition have grown steadily over the past ten years. Australia was the first English-speaking country to produce and sell Yakult fermented milk drink. The success achieved, given that it launched into a completely unknown product category, has been phenomenal.

With an unprecedented and confident advertising campaign that focused on one product, one package and one flavour, Yakult has exceeded expectations for the ten year expansion plan. Yakult Australia established a factory in Dandenong Victoria in 1993 and in January 1994 began selling Yakult in major supermarkets. Within the first two years Yakult had crept in to the top 20 units in supermarket dairy cases.

The ten-pack was an Australian innovation and was introduced nationally in 2001, due to customer demand. The double pack also features straws, which are especially favoured by young children drinking Yakult.

It is only recently that Australian society and western culture in general has grown aware of and informed about the importance of probiotics and intestinal health. Now in 2004 Yakult Australia has established and grown the probiotic market in Australia - Yakult truly is the original and the best!

On our 10 year anniversary Yakult Australia has over one hundred employees across six states, and the company has just launched Yakult into the New Zealand market. The ten year celebration was held at the stunning Quat Quatta in Ripponlea, Victoria with international and local special guests in attendance to celebrate the magnificent achievement.

With the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) accreditation and nominations for the Premier Regional Business Awards in Dandenong received on the eve of the 10 Year Anniversary this year, 2004 has been a tribute to the hard work and efforts contributed by Yakult staff and that of our business associates in ensuring Yakult Australia Pty Ltd's tremendous success over the last decade.
