| • | Who can attend the tours? "Everybody" is welcome to tour the Yakult factory. Currently we have approximately 1,000 visitors a month taking advantage of this service. Many of these are primary, secondary and tertiary students. We also have visiting representatives from different industries and businesses, science clubs and consumers. Other visitors include Senior Citizens and members of community groups such as Rotary and Probus Clubs. |

| • | What do the tours involve? Visitors can view the entire production process at Yakult. This hi-tech facility incorporates some of the latest food processing equipment. This includes the manufacture of the plastic Yakult bottles, filling and packaging lines, the laboratory where all the quality control testing takes place as well as the fermentation area where the bacteria (Lactobacillus casei Shirota strain) is inoculated into a milk mixture and fermented for up to seven days. Following the tour is a short and interesting presentation on the history of Yakult and the role intestinal flora plays in maintaining a balanced digestive system. There is also the opportunity to view the unique live Lactobacillus casei Shirota strain through the microscope and, of course, the opportunity to sample our delicious Yakult or Yakult LIGHT. This is an excellent time for visitors to have any queries answered. |
