Established in 1967 by Dr Shirota, the Yakult Research Institute is located in Tokyo, Japan. Its primary function is to investigate the use of microbes and their role in the digestive system.

Today, over 170 research scientists and medical doctors are actively pursuing research aimed at applying microbes (bacteria) effectively in the prevention and treatment of many diseases.
